Did You Know Your Coffeemaker Can Do Pods?

If you're into coffee you're probably well aware of the pod invasion. I'm not sure why anyone would want to brew a single mug when they could have a whole pot but it's not for me to judge. For whatever reason, K-pods have overrun the market. Even some of the hotels I've visited in recent years have switched to the Keurig system and I'll admit those little pods are fun to play with (even if they're non-recyclable).

I considered switching for a very brief period until I found out how much those single serving coffeemakers cost. Pods are fund but not that fun and I know several other coffee fans who have said the same thing. According to one website, that financial roadblock might not exist for long.

This guy has invented a converter you can stick in any regular machine and it will brew K-pods for you.

Right now it's a Kickstarter project but if you contribute you can get one for $49 including shipping. I'm sure retail will be a lot more than that once it goes public. This might be your chance!

What does Arizona's Bill Really Mean?

By now most of you have heard about Arizona's disgusting new discrimination bill (HB2153). Do you know what it says? If you're thinking it's a slap in the face to the LGBT Nation you only have half the story. It's actually much worse.

When the reports came out on Friday that it targeted LGBT people "and others" I went on a search for the definition of "others"...and then my jaw hit the desk. While it's being reported in the press that it targets LGBTs that's not what the bill really says. I quote:

"...the ability to act or refusal to act in a manner substantially motivated by a religious belief..."

That's the heart of it. You don't see anything anywhere in the text of the bill that says LGBT because it doesn't stop with LGBT. The bill is a blanket approval to refuse service to anyone of which your religion disapproves. Black, white, atheist, Chinese, Muslim, women, gays, transgender, Hispanic, etc. If you've ever run across a hate group hiding being religious dogma this is their get out of jail free card. They will be legally allowed to discriminate against ANYONE as long as they can prove such action complies with their chosen religion.

This isn't about the LGBT Nation. It's about everyone. Muslims can refuse service to Christians. Catholics can refuse service to gays. A Mormon pharmacist can refuse to fill the HIV prescription of a client because they assume that client is gay based on the ignorant conclusion that only gays have HIV. The doctor of a single woman can refuse to prescribe birth control because the doctor's religion doesn't condone sex before marriage. Are you getting the picture?

The bill makes no provision for life threatening situations. You can be turned away from a religiously owned medical center because the church behind it has rules about only serving people of which their dogma approves. Will it clash with other laws already in place? Sure, but that won't come up until it's brought to court and by then it's too late.

Any idiotic concept you've ever heard the teabaggers and other conservative politicians express will be law in Arizona. Whether you're gay, transgender, straight, white, black or purple this bill can be tossed in your face. Arizona legislators have just given groups like that nasty little sign-holding faux religion the sort of credibility they crave and I wouldn't be surprised to see them move their headquarters somewhere more likely to tolerate their Phoenix.

Will the law stand? Not a chance. Eventually it will be struck down as a blatant violation of constitutional rights but until then it's no longer the twenty-first century in Arizona. The state that is known for its large population of Latter Day Saints and rednecks has managed to do what no other state could do...get a law all the way to the Governor's desk that not only condones but encourages bigotry and open hatred.

If you haven't contacted Governor Jan Brewer to weigh in on the issue I urge to you speak up. Chattering to each other on Facebook and Twitter does nothing. This is one of those times when you need to put your keyboard where your mouth is and talk to the only person able to stop this madness before it begins. She hasn't signed the bill into law yet. We still have time but not much.

As always, regardless of how pissed you are, respectful language goes a lot farther than screaming hatred. Say what you mean but be diplomatic. A simple "please veto HB2153" will suffice.

Guest Author: Tyler Robbins Talks About Killian's Claim

Today my guest is Tyler Robbins talking about the hot new M/M Paranormal, Killian's Claim. Take it away, Tyler!

Thank you so much for having me, DP!!

It’s been a while since I’ve had a full length book release, and I’m thrilled that Killian’s Claim is finally here. Most of my books have been M/M military themed, so my new series, Call of the Wolf, is a fresh and exciting new sub-genre I can’t seem to get enough of.

I wrote the series’ first book, The Becoming, as part of the Alpha’s Claim Manlove Anthology from Evernight. The story intrigued my muse and opened up a whole new world full of sexy, paranormal wolf-shifters.

Killian’s Claim is book #2 in the Call of the Wolf series, which continues to follow the lives of several wolf packs across the state of Texas and a few other southern states. Their species lives by a strict code, and heed the call of the spirit wolf in all things, including matters of the heart. Not an easy undertaking when you’ve been told your sexuality goes against the laws of nature … or does it?

Change is coming, and each pack will inevitably have to make choices that will either strengthen or destroy their way of life. Killian and Quinn face these problems as well, but in their case, they have so much more to worry about. Here’s a little taste of what I’m talking about…

Six years ago, Quinn Kelly barely escaped the brutal murder of his parents. Now the lone-wolf is searching for a place to belong. Well aware of his proclivity for men, his nomadic life hasn’t allowed him to find anyone to call his own, until now.

Wolf-shifter and future alpha of his own pack, Killian Masters wants nothing more than his father’s approval. After meeting Quinn, he’s more determined than ever to make his father see who he is and how deeply he loves.

Captivated by their growing passion, the young lovers have a rude awakening when the vengeful alpha who murdered Quinn’s parents, finds him, and vows to destroy anyone who gets in his way.

Some say the battle between good and evil is determined by which power is fed the most, but in nature, no power compares to that of an alpha’s claim.

He stood frozen in place, fists balled tight and his cock throbbing with ungodly need. He’d never been balls deep inside another man before, but the longer he stood there, the more he wanted it.
Killian kissed the curve of Quinn’s neck then began to suckle.
Quinn squeezed his eyes shut. How much more could he possibly take? Chills skittered across his skin causing ripples of goose-bumps to coat his tingling flesh. A sensual moan vibrated in his chest as he shuddered from the thrill of Killian’s touch.
Killian pulled away and looked him in the eye. “Follow your instincts.”
Quinn took a deep breath then clutched the back of Killian’s neck. “Like this?” No longer able to hold back, he lunged forward, engulfing Killian’s mouth with his while pushing him back toward the sofa.
Killian tripped over his own feet, and toppled onto the couch.
Quinn stood over him. His engorged cock jerked as Killian’s hungry gaze zeroed in. He slowly unzipped his jeans, taking his time. He then reached in, squeezed his prick and winced from the ache. His experience with blowjobs had been limited to quickies here and there, and even those were awkward, and over before he’d had time to savor the moment. Getting sucked off by some guy he’d never see again was much different from what was happening now.
Killian sat up, licking his lips, his gaze still fixated on Quinn’s crotch.
Courage he hadn’t expected suddenly engulfed Quinn as he offered his cock to Killian. “Take it.”
A devious grin spread across Killian’s face.
Quinn’s eyes rolled back, and his hips naturally bucked as Killian removed his cock from his jeans. Warm hands gripped it firmly, but not too hard. Quinn sucked air in through his teeth, shuddering as Killian began to stroke him. Slow and easy. Up and down.
He jolted when Killian took him in his mouth, hot and wet. “Fuck.” Never had anything felt so good. He peered down, then twisted the back of Killian’s hair into his fist, guiding his head back and forth as Killian took more and more of his cock into his mouth.
Killian gripped the base of Quinn’s shaft, quickening his pace, sucking and stroking simultaneously.
Quinn’s knees buckled, and he grabbed Killian’s shoulders to steady himself as heat flooded his groin. His cock pulsed, and he struggled to hold off as long as he could. He wanted so badly to lose his load in Killian’s mouth, but doing that would end the pleasure far too soon.

Olympic Apathy

I'm not following the Olympics this year but I am following the stories billowing out of the catastrophe in motion that is Sochi. I consider it poetic justice that Russia is blowing their chance to gather the positive PR that typically comes with hosting the Games because they were too busy enacting ridiculous bigoted legislation to complete construction. Their Olympic venue won't be finished until months after the Games if it's finished at all. The water is toxic. The accommodations are potentially deadly and the country is the butt of a continuing string of internet jokes.

One story had me shaking my head rather than snickering over my coffee. It wasn't about the more than sixty protesters arrested within the first day of the games. To be honest, I expected that. Russia has never tolerated protests, just ask Pussy Riot. Letting people go with a beating and a warning is quite lenient for them when they tend to choose death or long-term imprisonment. Believe it or not, this is Russia on their best behavior.

The story that stopped my snickering was about recent comments by Austrian Olympic athlete Daniela Iraschko-Stolz. I understand her not wanting to use the Olympics as a political platform. There's enough stress involved in just competing. Why add to it by wading into an issue about which she apparently feels no particular affinity. That's her choice but her statement that she thinks no one else cares about it either is naive at best. That nonchalant attitude is what makes it possible for countries like Russia to get away with such bad behavior.

Russia's new law makes it illegal for anyone to discuss LGBT sexuality including teens coming out to their friends, as one girl has already discovered. It will keep them isolated and alone and we all know what that does to a person. Their government has labeled them freaks and criminals and anyone unwilling to accept that label in silence will be punished. This is their home and they're trapped in it until the law changes. This isn't a battle they can win on their own and just because the punishment isn't execution doesn't mean it's not potentially deadly.

Daniela isn't the only one who thinks Russia's law isn't that bad. Many self-appointed experts within the LGBT Nation are saying the same thing. The press is making more of it than there is. It's not worth all of this drama. We have no right to tell Russia how to run their country.

I've been at this activist thing long enough to know how difficult it is to explain to people who have it easy why it's important to protest on behalf of those who don't. Why should people in the U.S. care what's happening to strangers in Russia? Why should Daniela? All I can say is the struggle to bring gay teens the right to acknowledge and celebrate who they are is not "a waste of time" as she claims. Daniela is privileged to live in a place where she can openly admit who she is. The idea that everyone has the same right is as ignorant as the idea that gays don't deserve rights in the first place. Assuming "no one cares" because she doesn't care herself isn't accurate either.

It's too bad she's not willing to lend her voice to the cause even with a silent protest when the cameras are on. Nevertheless, the protests will continue and when the Games are over she's free to return to her homeland and pretend none of the ugliness exists.

Special Dancer's Heart V-Day Announcement!

Don't you love it when things come together on their own and land perfectly without you stressing over a deadline? I'm a big fan!

I'll admit, I'm not the biggest Valentine's Day enthusiast. I love chocolate and I have nothing against flowers but V-day has just never been on my radar. This year I suddenly have a special reason to celebrate. Yea for me! (No, I didn't get engaged.) I've been tentatively plotting but things came together about two weeks earlier than expected.

First, I want to offer a heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who helped push the number of Dancer's Heart downloads into the rafters last month. I appreciate you spending your limited fiction dollars on Simon. Hugs and a special thank you to everyone who used their monthly Kindle borrowing privileges to read it. I'm honored that you chose Dancer's Heart as the one book you checked out in January.

Now on to the contest! To be blunt, Simon needs reviews so I'm asking all of you good folks to pop back over to Amazon and tell me (and everyone else) what you thought of the story. When Dancer's Heart reaches 25 reviews I'm going to give away a $50 Amazon gift card.

Here are the details:

1. Your review does not enter you in the giveaway. That will come later.

2. While I love four- and five-star reviews, they won't carry any more weight in this contest than a one-star so be honest. No sucking up is required.

3. When the contest begins it will be open to everyone regardless of your country of residence.

4. You will not have to offer proof that you left a review in order to be eligible.

5. For this giveaway I am only counting reviews left on Amazon.
