Ebooks, Gift Cards, and Lambda Legal #BlogHop #giveaway #free #LGBT #GC

Happy Halloween
All Hallows Eve

For some, Halloween is a time to celebrate the discovery of chocolate. For some, it’s a time to honor the dead. For some, it’s a chance to live their dream and spend a night showing the world who they really are...cleverly disguised as a costume. Still others use those same costumes to hide their identity so they can dare to be the person they desperately want to be without revealing too much of themselves.

In the morning light, those bits of truth go back in the box. My hope is that one day there will be no need for the box.

As most of you know, I’m a sarcastic, opinionated, unashamed supporter of the fight for LGBTQIA equality. I swing the mace of support from a part of the world fortunate enough to have it already. The Pacific Northwest is packed with former hippies and flower children of the 1960’s. We protest anything even remotely unfair. Then we protest the unfairness of the unfairness. That’s probably why we legalized pot. Something has to counteract the coffee and crusading.

A large portion of my support takes the form of donations to LGBT charities. That’s why 25% of the royalties from every book I publish go to organizations that are at the head of this battle. Raising awareness on sites like Facebook and Twitter ultimately does little good. People need to know what’s happening, but bitching about the state of things is worthless until someone rolls up their sleeves and starts doing the work to change it.

That’s why my newest series, BLUE, will be supporting Lambda Legal. The recent federal rulings have moved this fight to the courts. That’s where we will win or lose our right to be who we are without the costumes. 2016 is expected to be the year where anti-LGBT politicians try to force their twisted version of morality onto everyone else.

It’s nothing new. The same thing happened when rock-n-roll began taking root, when blacks wanted equality, when mixed-race couples wanted to marry. Cities, counties, and even states tossed up laws making it illegal to broadcast certain kinds of music, treat blacks in white hospitals, marry someone with a different color skin. It’s the same old hysteria from people so terrified of change they would rather turn the country into a police state than grant others the right to live in peace.

I understand their fear and I can see the bits of validity in their stance. Thankfully, it’s not up to me to decide what violates the constitution and what doesn’t. Federal courts all over the country will decide how many of these ‘religious freedom’ laws stand and how many are blatantly unconstitutional. It’s in the hands of the lawyers now.

That’s why I’m supporting Lamba Legal. They’ve been fighting on our behalf for years, often in pro bono cases. I want them to keep fighting, so I don’t have to work so hard to make sure people do more than pay lip service to the cause. It’s a win-win-win. They do what needs to be done to turn awareness into equality. I get to keep my sanity. People who buy my books can help support the cause without digging too far into the budget. Everybody is happy.

Published by Beaten Track Publishing
Genres: Romance, LGBT

Release Date: October 10, 2015

Spanish Bay is a feel-good novel about two young men who, despite having the odds stacked against them, never give up, always see the silver lining, work hard, and are committed to their families, come what may.

Chris, a Texan native who recently moved to Carmel, rescues wheelchair-bound Neil from bullies. Neither question the love that develops between them, although their life together is not without challenges. When Chris’s parents die in a car accident, their young love faces the ultimate test. Will they be able to cope with the additional responsibility of raising Chris’s baby brother Frank, who is also confined to a wheelchair?

Spanish Bay is about love, overcoming obstacles, and finding happiness, wherever you are.

Mini Excerpt

Jack was still munching on his food and he quickly swallowed so he could speak. “Sorry to disillusion you, Sarah, but there’s no way my sister will ever look after Frank, no matter what. She’d pay people to take the kids she has off her back, if she had any money.”

“I’m sorry to hear that,” Sarah said. She lowered her gaze, realizing that maybe Chris’s fear of losing his brother to an institution was not completely unfounded.

“Do you have any aunts or uncles who could look after him?” Joe offered, clutching at straws.

“I’ll look after Frank. No one else will. He’s my brother, he’s my responsibility.”

Everyone stopped eating and stared.

“You can’t be serious, Chris!” Sarah beseeched.

Hans M Hirschi has been writing stories ever since he was a child. Adulthood and the demands of corporate life efficiently put an end to his fictional writing for over twenty years. A global executive in training and channel development, Hans has traveled the world and had previously published non-fictional titles.   The birth of his son and the subsequent parental leave provided him with the opportunity to unleash his creative writing once again. With little influence over his brain’s creative workings, he indulges it, going with the flow.   A deeply rooted passion for, faith in a better world, in love, tolerance and diversity are a red thread throughout both his creative and non-fictional work. His novels might best be described as “literary romance, engaging characters and relevant stories that won’t leave you untouched, but hopeful.”   Hans is a proud member of the Swedish Writers’ Union and the Writers’ Center in Sweden.
